Original Gilding is owned by Clare Lewis, who is a highly skilled artisan and accomplished artist with over 25 years of gilding experience. For many years she ran an Antiques business specialising in gilt mirrors & furniture. Clare spent several years working for one of London’s leading restoration companies.

Trained in gilding at the City & Guilds College, Kennington with Judy Wetherall, a leading practitioner, lecturer and conservator using traditional methods dating back to Cennini’s “Il Libro dell’ Arte”. Further studies of finishes and decorative techniques with Robert Cunning at The Camden Institute.

Clare is a visual artist and Fine Art BA graduate of the Chelsea College of Art. Her expertise includes:

Clare loves to help her clients visualise a project from its conception to completion, and is happy to discuss the creative options and project requirements. Intricate projects can be completed in the workshop. Architectural projects are usually completed on site.
